Head Constable Arrested in Sarwana for Taking ₹50,000 Bribe
Sarwana head constable Bhanwarlal arrested by ACB for accepting ₹50,000 bribe to influence FIR case at Sarwana police station.
Jaipur, September 6, 2025 – In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Rajasthan apprehended Head Constable Bhanwarlal (Constable No. 709) of Sarwana Police Station, Jalore district, for accepting a ₹50,000 bribe. The arrest was made on Saturday at the constable’s government residence within the Sarwana police station premises, where he was caught red-handed during a sting operation.
Acting on a tip-off, the ACB’s Barmer unit, under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jodhpur Range) Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, executed the operation. The head constable allegedly demanded the bribe from a lawyer representing clients involved in a case registered at Sarwana Police Station. According to ACB’s Additional Director General of Police (In-Charge) Smita Srivastava, Bhanwarlal, as the investigating officer, sought ₹50,000 to ensure that two or more co-accused individuals, beyond those already named in the First Information Report (FIR), would not be implicated in the case and to provide favorable cooperation in the investigation.
The complainant, a lawyer acting on behalf of the accused, reported the bribe demand to the ACB’s Barmer unit. Following verification of the complaint, a trap was meticulously planned. Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar, leading the Barmer ACB team, executed the operation, catching Bhanwarlal in the act of accepting the predetermined bribe amount of ₹50,000. The cash was recovered and seized from the accused, who was subsequently taken into custody for further interrogation.
The ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and investigations are ongoing to uncover additional details. This arrest underscores the bureau’s commitment to rooting out corruption within public institutions. Smita Srivastava emphasized that the ACB remains vigilant in addressing complaints of corrupt practices, ensuring swift and decisive action against offenders. The operation has sent a strong message to public servants engaging in illicit activities, reinforcing Rajasthan’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
This incident adds to a series of anti-corruption actions in Rajasthan, highlighting the pervasive issue of bribery in administrative and law enforcement sectors. The ACB’s proactive measures aim to restore public trust and uphold transparency in governance. Further updates on the case, including potential additional charges or findings, are expected as the investigation progresses.
